Honourary Senators

Under Article 11.0 of the TCYL(F) and TCYL(P) Constitutions individuals are elected as Honourary Senators at the TCYL(F) and TCYL(P) Annual General Meetings.

2010

Chris Drew – Chris was one of the founding members of the Toronto Centre Young Liberals and was the TCYL (Federal) President from 2005 to 2009. Chris has also been active in Toronto Centre for many years through his work as a constituency assistant for the Hon. Bill Graham, and as a member of the Toronto Centre Federal and Provincial Liberal Associations. Policy is one of Chris’ passions and served as the Ontario Young Liberals Policy Director from 2008 to 2009.

Yuri Navarro – Recognized for being a founding member of the Toronto Centre Young Liberals and his energy, dedication and support for the organization over many years. Noted for assisting with developing fundraising and support from the senior Toronto Centre Riding Associations. In addition, recognized for his policy work on advocating for improved recognition for internationally trained professionals, a policy ratified at the highest possible level of the Liberal Party of Canada. A great friend and mentor to all members of the Toronto Centre Young Liberals. Noted for being the TCYL(F) Vice-President Federal and TCYL Executive Vice-President (Federal and Provincial).

Eric Peterson – Recognized for being a long-time supporter of TCYL members and including TCYL members in the Toronto Centre Federal Liberal Association. In addition, recognized for always willing to assist TCYL members in local initiatives and for being a consistent guest at fundraisers. Noted for being TCFLA President.

 

2009

Hon. Bob Rae – Recognized for his support of TCYL members and his strong record of attending TCYL events, policy discussions and fundraisers.  In addition, we recognize his advocacy on issues such as affordable housing, equity and social justice, public transit, and Canada’s independent and engaged role in foreign affairs. Noted as being an Ontario Premier and active in public life for over 30 years.

Hon. George Smitherman – Recognized for his consistent record of attending TCYL events, advocating for TCYL financial support from TCPLA, and providing TCYL members the opportunity to take on leadership roles in government, the Liberal Party, and our community. In addition, we recognize his record on issues such has building a strong health care system, being a role model for the Toronto Centre community, supporting local community organizations and initiatives through donations from TCPLA, advocacy on Green Energy, public transit and affordable housing. Noted as being Deputy Premier, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, and Minister of Energy and Infrastructure.

Hon. Bill Graham – Recognized for inspiring the youth members of the Toronto Centre Federal Liberal Association to establish the Toronto Centre Young Liberals. Recognized for his tremendous support and encouragement to all TCYL members, and for always being warm and welcoming to any TCYL member seeking advice or in need of help to pursue goals. In addition, recognized for his work as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of National Defence, Interim Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, and for his work as MP for Toronto Centre from 1993 to 2006.

2007

Jason Cherniak – Recognized for publicizing the first TCYL Fundraiser on his blog and encouraging Toronto-area Liberals to attend. Noted for being a great friend and mentor for TCYL members.
